Neither. The mediator is a neutral guide whose job is to help both of you reach a full agreement. If you want your own attorney looking out for your interests, we also offer represented mediation.

What if we do not agree on everything yet?

That is exactly what mediation is for. You do not need a finished deal before you walk in. You need a shared willingness to work through the open questions and reach an agreement together.

How fast can this be done?

The mediation and drafting work can happen over a single weekend. After your case is filed, Georgia law requires a 31-day waiting period before a judge can sign the final decree.

Does it have to happen over a weekend?

No. The weekend schedule is the most popular way to do it because most couples can set aside a Saturday together, and filing Monday keeps the momentum going. But the process works on whatever days fit your schedules. Mediate, review, file, on your timeline.

What about children and custody?

Parenting plans and custody agreements are part of the mediation. You and your spouse decide the schedule, decision-making, and other details together, with the mediator guiding the conversation.

Complex finances are part of the conversation. You and your spouse will identify and value everything together, then decide on a fair division. If you need outside expertise, such as an appraiser or accountant, we can bring them in. The goal is a clear, complete agreement without dragging the process into court.

Can I have my own attorney review the agreement?

Yes. You can have your own attorney review the agreement at any point before you file. Each of you independently reviews the drafted documents, either on your own or with an attorney. You can use any attorney you choose. If you'd like a recommendation, we're happy to share a list of independent family law attorneys. As your mediator, we cannot act as your attorney. Some couples review the documents themselves, and others choose to have an attorney look them over. Either way is fine, and we can suggest an attorney if you would like one.
